Entertaiment is the act of entertaining or the state of being entertained. It also refers to something affording pleasure, diversion, or amusement: the performance was an elaborate entertainment. The word has a rich history of crossover between different media, from slapstick comedy to picaresque novels. Its roots are Medieval Latin intertenere, from the prefix ‘inter’ and the suffix ‘ten’, from the Indo-European root ten.
